The East of England took the top spot with 16 pumpkin patches in the region at an average family entry cost of £22, with the cheapest pumpkin patches found in Wales.

The research also revealed the most expensive areas to try out the popular family activity, with keen vegetable pickers likely to pay as much as £53 per family in the West Midlands and £33 in the North East.

  1. Choose an area of your garden that gets plenty of sun, and mark spaces for planting about eight feet apart to give your pumpkins the best chance to grow.
  2. Ensure that the holes that you've plotted are around 12 inches deep and 12 inches wide, then add a layer of aged compost to the hole. Do this shortly after Halloween to begin prepping the soil.
  3. Pumpkin season starts around mid-September, so keep your seeds safe and plant them around six months before - roughly March/April.
