A home-cooked meal, two hours in front of the TV and bed by 10:45pm is the recipe for a ‘perfect night in’ reveals study by meal kit provider HelloFresh UK

London, 23rd November 2018
Dinner at 6:48pm, two hours in front of the TV and bed by 10:45pm is the recipe for a ‘perfect night in’, according to research from meal kit provider, HelloFresh UK.

The poll of 2,000 adults has revealed 78 per cent of Brits are opting to stay in from the cold and dark instead of going on a night out.

And 43 per cent claim to enjoy cooking up a feast at home instead of spending their money on nights out or ordering in a takeaway in the lead up to Christmas.

Sitting down and watching I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here! or a Great British Bake Off box set are among the favourite ways to spend a night on the sofa.

Half admitted they have made up an excuse for not going out in order to don their pyjamas and have a cosy night in.

Meals favoured during a night in front of the telly are homemade curry, steak and chips and pizza.

CEO of HelloFresh UK, Claire Davenport said: “A cosy night in is something to really look forward to and a great way to spend quality time with friends and family or relax by yourself.”

“The survey shows that Brits prefer cooking a meal at home to ordering a takeaway as they want something more nutritious. With HelloFresh you can create delicious meals from scratch in the warmth of your home.”

“We deliver all the fresh ingredients straight to your door without having to brave the cold and go to the supermarket.”

Saving money for Christmas, not wanting to leave the house in the dark and enjoying home comforts when it’s cold outside are cited as some of the reasons Brits love a night in.

For a perfect night in Brits need to be in their sleepwear no later than 8pm for maximum cosiness and one in five opt for a long bubble bath.

Thirty-six per cent of adults enjoy a night in as an opportunity to spend quality time with their partner.

And a further tenth just love the opportunity to lie back and eat biscuit after biscuit, according to the research conducted via OnePoll.

When it comes a night-in activity, the majority of adults enjoy sitting in front of the TV all night – with 54 per cent settling in to watch a movie and 31 per cent getting stuck into a TV box set.

Other television programmes high on the watch list include Game of Thrones, Strictly Come Dancing and Coronation Street.

Researchers found half of Brits most want to spend a cosy night in with their partner, while 15 per cent like the idea of the whole family cuddling up together.

In order to get out of a night on the tiles instead of staying at home, 45 per cent of Brits have faked an illness.

And one in five have blamed their bosses making them work late as a reason to chill out at home rather than brave a night out.

The research also found Brits are likely to start preferring a cosy night in to a wild night out at the age of 36.

Claire Davenport added: “Cooking with loved ones, enjoying dinner together and then putting your feet up in front of the TV with pyjamas on is the nation’s favourite way to enjoy a cold and dark evening. This study shows that creating great food and classic home entertainment is a winning formula. HelloFresh has lots of tried and tested recipes to choose from so you can be sure to discover new and delicious flavours every cosy meal in this winter.”
