How do you make dal?

It will depend on your choice of dal, whether you choose a Moong, Toor or Masoor. However, the following ingredients are used, and steps are commonly followed.

Ingredients:

  • Shallots
  • Garlic
  • Aubergine
  • Red lentils
  • Tomato passata
  • Spinach
  • Indian spice mix - turmeric, cumin, coriander, and garam masala
  • Basmati rice

Method:

  • Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
  • Chop your shallot and garlic. Cut the aubergine into 2cm chunks. - Drizzle the aubergine in oil, the curry mix, salt and pepper and roast for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Cook the shallots for several minutes in a frying pan in oil. Then, add the garlic.
  • Cook the rice following the instructions.
  • Add the passata, remaining Indian spice and lentils to the shallot. - Cook for 20 to 25 minutes on a low heat, stirring to avoid it catching.
  • Once the lentils are cooked, add the spinach and cook for an additional 3 minutes before adding in the aubergine.
  • Plate with the rice and enjoy!
