Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Cream Cheese Frosting Recipe

Cream cheese can be used for pasta recipes and other savoury dishes, but you can’t overlook its uses in sweet recipes too. Whether you’ve got a freshly cooked Victoria sponge, red velvet cake, or perhaps a lemon drizzle, you may be wondering how to make cream cheese frosting to finish off your masterpiece. Follow this cream cheese frosting recipe and you can’t go wrong!

To make cream cheese frosting, you will need:
- 225g cream cheese, softened
- 115g unsalted butter, softened
- 480g icing sugar, sifted
- 1 tsp vanilla extract

How to make cheese frosting:
1. Bring cream cheese and butter to room temperature (this will prevent lumps and ensure a smooth, creamy texture for your frosting). Meanwhile, you can sift the powdered sugar.
2. Beat the softened cream cheese and butter until a smooth and creamy mixture is formed.
3. Gradually add the icing sugar. Using a food mixer, mix on low, then beat on medium-high until your cream cheese frosting mixture is light and fluffy.
4. Add the vanilla extract and combine.
5. Finally, beat on high speed for a minute until light and fluffy.

Mimi’s Expert Tips on Making Cream Cheese Frosting

HelloFresh’s Mimi Morley, is a huge fan of adding cream cheese to recipes, both sweet and savoury. When making cream cheese frosting, Mimi shares her expert insight on storage and application to your bakes:

“Cream cheese frosting adds a wonderful texture to any cake, cupcake or cookie, and helps to keep it moist and tasty for days. If you’re prepping ahead, you can make your cream cheese frosting in advance and store it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to a week. To use, simply bring your mixture to room temperature and give it a quick mix before icing your cake. When it comes to application to your bake, I’d recommend using a spatula or piping bag for an even and polished finish.”

How to Thicken Cream Cheese Frosting

If you’ve made your cream cheese frosting and the consistency is a little runny, there are a few tricks you can utilise to thicken it, ready for your bake. Try adding more icing sugar or cornstarch and whipping again to thicken. Alternatively, you could leave in the fridge for longer, which naturally thickens the mixture without adding any further ingredients.
