Cheddar Cheese Sauce Recipe

Cheddar Cheese Sauce Recipe

Cheddar cheese sauce is a delicious addition to pasta, vegetables, meat dishes, casseroles and bakes. If you want to make your own cheddar cheese sauce at home, follow these steps.

To make cheddar cheese sauce for pastas and other recipes, you’ll need:
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons plain flour
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup grated cheddar cheese
- Salt and pepper to taste

  1. Firstly, melt the butter in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add your flour and whisk for a few minutes until your mixture is light golden. Slowly pour in the milk, whisking continuously to prevent it going lumpy. Cook this for around five minutes until the sauce thickens.
  3. Reduce heat to low. Gradually stir in one cup of grated cheddar cheese, until the mixture is melted and smooth.

HelloFresh's Mimi suggests stirring in 1/2 teaspoon of mustard powder and 1/4 teaspoon of garlic powder for a cheese sauce with a kick.

What Does Cheddar Taste Like?

What Does Cheddar Taste Like?

Cheddar cheese has a rich, sharp and tangy flavour that can range from mild to extra sharp, depending on its age. Cheddar is much more complex and intense than feta, goat’s cheese and mozzarella, for instance. When it comes to flavour, older cheddars are more crumbly and intense in flavour, compared to younger varieties.

The texture of cheddar cheese is generally a little waxy, slightly crumbly and easily grateable. Due to its availability and versatility, cheddar cheese can be used in many different recipes, including:
Sandwiches and burgers
Macaroni and cheese
Cheese sauces and dips
Casseroles
Grilled cheese sandwiches
Snacks with crackers or apples
