Cooking Steps

Get Frying
1
  • Heat a frying pan on medium-high heat (no oil).
  • Once hot, fry the beef mince, 5-6 mins.
  • Break up the mince as it cooks, then drain the fat.
  • Season with salt and pepper. IMPORTANT: Wash hands and utensils after handling raw meat. Cook so there's no pink in the middle.
Toasting Time
2
  • Meanwhile, grate the cheese.
  • Halve the burger buns.
  • Toast the buns in your toaster.
Add Flavour
3
  • Once the beef has browned, stir in the beef stock paste, ketchup and water (see pantry for both).
  • Simmer, 1-2 mins. Add a splash of water if needed.
  • Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix together the baby leaves, coleslaw mix, cider vinegar and the oil and sugar (see pantry for both). Toss to coat.
Dinner's Ready!
4
  • Lay the toasted buns on plates, cut-side up.
  • Top with the beef mince, cheese and burger sauce - as much as you'd like.
  • Sprinkle the crispy onions over.
  • Serve the salad on the side.

Enjoy!

Customer reviews

Review summary

Updated on Aug 2026
  • Flavour: The beef mince and burger sauce combination wins plenty of fans, with many describing it as genuinely tasty and satisfying. Some find the seasoning a little bland and suggest adding spices or herbs to the mince for more depth.
  • Ease of prep: This is a genuinely quick and straightforward recipe that comes together with minimal effort, making it a reliable choice for busy weeknights.
  • Suggestions: Adding jalapeños, onions, or peppers to the mince boosts flavour, and melting the cheese over the meat rather than adding it cold is worth trying. Some found the coleslaw improved with a spoonful of mayo stirred through, and reducing the cider vinegar slightly may suit those who find the dressing too sharp.
  • Portions: The mince quantity feels tight for the stated serving size, particularly for three or four people; consider supplementing with homemade chips or wedges to make it a more substantial meal.
  • Serving ideas: Several people found the meal more filling and complete when served alongside chips, wedges, or sweet potato fries.
