Orzo and Hot Honey Bacon
with Tenderstem® Broccoli and Cheese
Boxes and ingredients are packed in facilities that handles Peanut, Nuts, Sesame, Fish, Crustaceans, Milk, Egg, Mustard, Celery, Soya, Gluten and Sulphites. Due to the war in Ukraine, it has been necessary to substitute sunflower oil with rapeseed oil in some products without a label change. Bring a large saucepan of water to the boil with 0.5 tsp salt for the orzo.
Meanwhile, heat a drizzle of oil in a large frying pan on medium-high heat.
Once the oil is hot, add the bacon lardons. Stir-fry until golden, 4-5 mins.
IMPORTANT: Wash your hands and equipment after handling raw meat. Cook bacon thoroughly.
While the bacon is frying, halve, peel and chop the onion into small pieces.
Peel and grate the garlic (or use a garlic press).
Cut the Tenderstem® broccoli into thirds.
When the bacon is cooked, drain and discard any excess fat. Remove the pan from the heat. Stir in the honey and chilli flakes.
Transfer to a small bowl and cover. Wipe the pan clean.
When boiling, add the orzo to the water and bring back to the boil.
Cook for 7 mins, then add the broccoli and cook for a further 3-4 mins, until everything is tender.
Once cooked, drain in a sieve and pop back in the pan. Drizzle with oil and stir through to stop it sticking together.
Meanwhile, return the (now empty) frying pan to medium-high heat with a drizzle of oil.
Add the onion to the pan and stir-fry until softened, 4-5 mins.
Add the garlic and fry for 1 min more.
Stir the passata, red wine stock paste, water and sugar for the sauce (see pantry for both) into the pan.
Simmer the sauce until thickened slightly, 2-3 mins.
Stir in the orzo, broccoli, hard Italian style cheese and butter (see pantry for amount) until melted.
Taste, season with salt and pepper if needed.
Add a splash of water if it's a little too thick.
Share your orzo between serving bowls.
Spoon over the hot honey bacon.
