While Wiener Schnitzel is traditionally made with veal meat, variations using pork, chicken or turkey have become just as popular, each offering its own unique flavour profile and texture.

How Do You Make Chicken Schnitzel?

Chicken schnitzel is one of the most popular variations, so, if you’re looking to rustle up some chicken schnitzel for your family and friends, follow these step-by-step instructions:

To prep the chicken, place each chicken breast between two sheets of baking paper or cling film. Grab a saucepan and give it a good bash until it's 1-2cm thick. Season both sides with a pinch of salt and pepper.
Then, crack an egg into a bowl and whisk it up. In another bowl, combine 50g panko breadcrumbs with mixed herbs, salt and pepper. Mix everything together – this is where the crispy magic happens!
Dip each chicken breast into the whisked egg, making sure it’s fully covered. Then, press it into the seasoned breadcrumbs until it’s evenly coated.
Cover the base of a frying pan in oil, and turn to high heat. Once piping hot, carefully lay the chicken breasts and fry for 8-10 minutes, turning every 2-3 minutes until golden and cooked throughout. Let the schnitzel rest on kitchen paper for a couple of minutes before serving. Enjoy!
